 RAINFALL EVENT LOGGER

The SDL02 is a Malaysia made Rainfall Event Logger designed to fit inside tipping bucket rain gauge to record the rainfall event with accuracy up to every second. SDL02 eliminate the need to manually read rain gauge and able to provide exact rainfall information including times, duration and rates. It is a stand-alone unit operating on dry cell for long terms operation. The rainfall measurement taken is based on the resolution of the tipping bucket which is normally 0.5mm.

This Rainfall Event Logger is specially designed for reliability and low power operation. It equipped with most of common feature required for remote data logging without human intervention.

     Features
  • Record rainfall event with resolution of every tips (0.5mm)

  • Record rainfall event with date and time stamp accurate to every seconds (optional 1/256 second to 0.5 sec)

  • Pulse input accept contact closure signal and 5V-13V DC voltage, user configurable for opto-isolation provide flexibility in connection and for interface to all type of tipping bucket type rain gauge

  • Equipped with efficient hardware filtering to eliminate faults multiple rainfall event record due to poor tipping bucket contact (settable for no filtering, 2 pulse/second or 1 pulse/second)

  • Tips Indicator (Green LED) blink once confirms rainfall event recording operations

  • Equipped with internal "STOP/RUN" switch for recording of "Start Logging" and "Stop Logging" date/time which is essential in graph and Tideda file generation to eliminate erroneous data.

  • In "STOP" mode, the logger still operational to accept rainfall event but not event not log into memory, any pulse input detected will blink the Test indicator (Red LED) once thus allow testing of logger pulse input and tipping bucket

  • Both Indicator (Red and Green LED) blinking simultaneously for a period of 5 seconds for indication of battery low, easily check by user after battery insertion or switching the "STOP/RUN" button into "STOP" or "RUN" position.

  • Automatic self-test after battery insertion, Both indicator (Red and Green LED) blink alternatively for 5 seconds to indicate internal error such as EERPOM failure

  • Allow restore factory default and clear event logger memory by switching a "DIP jumper", confirmed by both Indicator (Red and Green LED) lights ON simultaneously and continuously for 5 seconds

  • Real time clock / calendar with year 2000 compliance and accuracy of ±2 minutes per month

  • Non-volatile EEPROM memory retains logged data even if battery fails to prevent loosing logged data is battery is removed or fails

  • Large ring type Non-volatile EEPROM memory with 512KByte for storage of 6500mm or 13,000 tips

  • Built in watchdog circuitry in microcontroller to prevent program hang

  • Microcontroller used is specially designed for data logging purposes which consume about one micro-ampere in sleep mode

  • High performance microcontroller running on 2.7648 Million instruction per second (MIPS) on 11.0592MHz or 8.25 MIPS if running on 33MHz allow fast operation during rainfall event to reduce power consumption. Microcontroller only active for 12mS to read and store one rainfall tips

  • Overall power consumption is about 60micro-Ampere Hour (AH) good for 1 year operation without charging or battery change, able to operate more then 2 years on user replaceable 4x 1.5V AA dry cell battery (2000mAH)

  • Equipped with user replaceable secondary internal lithium battery (CR2032) to backup real time clock which used to backup Real Time Clock and internal RAM when dry cell battery is changed

  • Consumption for Real Time Clock and microcontroller internal memory is 1 microampere continuos with or without dry cell battery which means 220mAH CR2032 lithium battery can supply for more then 10 years with 100% margin. The Lithium battery is not consumed when dry-cell battery is powering event logger..

  • Event Logger can take in wide supply voltage input range from 3.5V-16.5V DC, it provide sufficient time and margin for battery low warning before become fail

  • Rainfall pulse input configurable to accept external supply voltage with opto-isolation, this means the logger can be connected in series with telemetry system or mechanical logger without any problem

  • Built-in pulse-input surge protection using Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) for pulse input and supply input

  • One RS232C serial port for logged data retrieving with auto-power down mode to safe power

  • Small footprint (dimension: 80mm L x 82mm W x 55mm H) able to be housed in all type of tipping bucket type rain gauge

  • IP65 rating weatherproof and robust enclosure with quick release enclosure for reliable operation in tropical and harsh environment

  • Wide operating range from 0°C to 70°C, 0 to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing

  • Allow 8 digit serial number store in non-volatile memory (EEPROM)

  • Logged data able to be retrieved at site using portable reader such as Pocket PC, SDL03 Mini-Retriever Unit or by using a laptop computer - Allow set of same data to be downloaded using portable retriever (selection using Poll ID 1, Poll ID 2, Poll ID 3 or Poll ID 4).

  • Initial (since last retrieve) and final cumulated rainfall able to be checked at site using portable reader

  • Data retrieving software provided free for installation on laptop computer for downloading data

Data Retriever

Three type of portable data retriever is available for retrieving data from the SDL02 data logger, it is:

  1. Any notebook computer with RS232 serial port

  2. Hewlett Package (HP) iPAQ Pocket PC h2210 with RS232 serial port

  3. SDL03 mini-retriever unit

For item 1 and 2, a separate windows base data retrieving software called "Log-Master" is provided for installation.

    "LOG-MASTER" SOFTWARE

The Log-Master Software is equipped with the following features:
