The ASIA Cellular Satellite (ACeS) System Services

The ASIA Cellular Satellite (ACeS) system is a satellite based communication system providing fully digital voice, data, fax, service to and from handheld, mobile and fixed terminals throughout Asia. ACeS subscribers can communicate with anyone, worldwide from anywhere in the Asia region.

Enhancing Mobility Imagine being able to make you go, into the jungle, the deep forest, the open seas, the high mountains, or even in cities anywhere in Asia. ACeS offers a convenient and cost effective means of providing mobile communications to these areas which may not be covered by standard mobile telecommunication services. In addition to voice, ACeS is capable of alerting and paging services, facsimile and data transmission as well as other standard GSM features. ACeS will truly enhance your mobility.

At the heart of the ACeS system, is a Lockheed Martin A2100AXX satellite. With two 12 meter antennas, on board digital signal processing and up to 140 spot beams covering the whole of Asia, the Garuda 1 satellite is one of the most powerful communications satellite ever built for commercial use.

The satellite is capable of supporting 11,000 simultaneous telephone channels and up to two million
subscribers. The Garuda 1 footprint extends from Guam and Papua New Guinea in the east, to Pakistan in the west, and from Japan in the north to Indonesia in the south.

ACeS Satellite Services Key Benefits

  • Extended communications for GSM subscribers
  • Subscribers can retain their existing GSM phone number
  • Seamless roaming between ACeS and GSM 900 using one SIM Card
  • Single bill for ACeS and terrestial GSM services
  • Small, light-weight, Satellite/GSM 900 handset

ASIA Cellular Satellite (ACeS) Technical Information

How does the ACeS system work?
The ACeS system consists of a geosynchronous satellite, the Garuda 1, the Satellite Control Facility (SCF), the Network Control Center (NCC), the ACeS Customer Management Information System (ACMIS), Gateways and user terminals (UT). As of February 2001, the ACeS system already has three Gateways, which are located in Jakarta (Indonesia), Subic Bay (the Philippines) and Bangkok (Thailand), while the SCF
and the NCC are co-located in Batam, Indonesia. Other Gateways such as in India and Taiwan are still under construction.

Space Segment
The ACeS Satellite or Garuda satellite is a high-orbit geosynchronous satellite , the most powerful one ever built for commercial use. It simultaneously supports up to 11,000 telephone channels ,serving two million subscribers in 23 countries throughout Asia. With a service life designed to be 12-15 years

Ground Segment
Satellite Control Facility: SCF

The Satellite Control Facility or SCF houses the hardware , software ,and all the facilities necessary to manage, control and monitor the Garuda Satellite. SCF is located in Batam of Indonesia.

Network Control Center : NCC
The Network Control Center (NCC) is co-locate with the Satellite Control Facility .The NCC serves as the primary control and performance monitor of the ACeS network as managing the satellite payload processor resources.

ACeS Gateway : GW
The ACeS gateway provides the primary interface between ACeS and other telecommunication networks. They provide the interface with the PSTN (public switched telephone networks) and PLMN (public land mobile networks), allowing users to call anyone anywhere in the world. The Thailand Gateway is located in Jasmine International Tower at Nonthaburi Province.

User Segment
ACeS Satellite Phone are provided in both post-paid (User registration required) and prepaid ACeS Ready Service (Using calling cards) schemes. Allowing you to receive and send phone calls from remote areas of Asia where there are no telephone systems or cellular transmitters. When you make a call, your phone transmits a signal to satellite, Which then beams the signal back to your network service provider who forwards the signal to the number you dialed.

SCADATRON ST23 RTU can be connected to a variety of sensors instrument such as simple float switches (high, low level alarm), 4-20mA output transducer (ultrasonic level sensor, pressure probe level sensor), digital output transceiver (float & weight shaft encoder), pulse output instrument (tipping bucket rain gauge) as illustrated in the above diagram. This diagram also shows AceS Satellite Terminal connected to ST23 RTU through RS3232 Serial port
